Wait wait wait, Old Games That Don’t Suck Thursday typically means a game that is old but this is a weird exception.  Flash Flash Revolution has been slowly evolving over time and hasn’t quite reached its “okay it’s done,” but since it started so long ago I’ll make the pass.  This week, a Flash game!

Flash Flash Revolution was the first Flash game I ever was addicted to.  I was mesmerized by the flashing arrows and friend’s ability to knock out these levels left and right perfectly.  Yes, it’s got the DDR influence, but it’s the sheer dedication to bringing this platform to Flash and keeping it updated and the community thriving that makes this game incredible.  Seriously, it’s an entire community wrapped around a single game, mostly.

When flashing arrows come down the screen, match them to the beat with the flashing arrows above.  Keep in-time and make sure your metre keeps full from consistent hits.

Since you aren’t playing with your feet you’re playing with your fingers.  Learning to coordinate your fingers on the arrow keys in such a way as to not tie up your fingers and lose timing is a slow but steady learning curve.  Overall I feel the experience is fun.  Getting better at songs and passing ones for the first time is incredibly rewarding.  Not to mention great perks such as credits and song unlocks throughout the system and site.

Go play it! It’s Flash, so it’s available on nearly every OS.

Working on our ‘bunkers‘ game, we’ve decided to make the jump to Flash Player 10.  We want to use some datatypes only available in Flash CS4, so we’re moving from the safety of Flash Player 9 and making haste towards the newest version of Flash.

We’re hoping it’ll make things a bit interesting.

Joey ran some tests today and the new Vector datatype in Flash 10 is super fast at doing computations.  This means that if we have lots of particles we can calculate their movement very, very quickly.  More CPU draw means more particles.  And as we all know, more is always better.

I’m excited to see what happens tomorrow when CS4 gets dumped on the system.  It’ll be Actionscript 3 with flair.
