Hey there friends, new game out today, it’s Balloon in a Wasteland. This game felt like it took forever (in John time).
So our friend Mr. Tophat (yes some of the commentators on this site named him) is back for more strange vehicle mishaps. First it was an elevator, then it was a random plane, and now its a crashed balloon. The point of the game is to survive until you can fix your balloon. While you fix your balloon a caravan of different store fronts show up to provide weapons and fort building materials to better protect yourself. Set traps and build barbwire to slow down and injure your enemies. There’s a lot to do.
The route you take is up to you. There’s several strategies to be had in this game that you can find all different ways to reach the end. Either way, fix your balloon, shoot the bad guys, and overall… just survive. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Enjoy.

Wee, I was kinda afraid it died there
I am glad you are still creating. But, are you going to create a big game? I know that flash is the best media for distributing these little games, but no matter how good these are, nobody can reuse it, or learn from it. Yes, I am talking about opensource. I would be glad to see some of your famous games, like “Ball Revamped” or “Four Seconds *” in C, or some language like that, with released source. They are everlasting classics, and these like “Four Seconds *”, “I Hate Traffic” or even “Achievment Unlocked” would allow much longer living, if anyone could edit it and add to it. Just a thought, if you have reasons, I accept them

Aww… You didn’t use any of our names!

Why do you hate us? You never use our names!

Way too easy. I don’t see anything preventing me from just building a tower and stay there whenever I’m under attack.
February 3rd, 2010 at 12:28 pm
Exactly. I just stand on my tower during the waves, and when the bad guys leave I go and repair my baloon.

Recycling a bit of code from “The Next Floor” are we?
Anyway, fun game, but as has already been said, way too easy. Would also had appreciated if there were some strategic choices like say for example quickswitching between weapons and telling your torrents to only shoot at aerial/ground enemies or some shit.
A+ for effort though

Agreed with ptrtty much all the other people. IT was easy.

It feels like there should be some boss with like 25 million HP for the people who don’t want to just fly away as soon as they can. Just before wave 30 the timeline glitches and repeats from wave 21.

Oh. And enemies should be able to destroy your fort.
February 3rd, 2010 at 4:14 pm
Actually non of the code was really recycled, there’s probably a good 4,000 lines of code in there written specifically for this project. The character art is obviously going to be the same since its the same character, enemies have been expanded upon (3-4 new enemies over the 4 that existed in Next Floor).
Enemies used the attack the fort but it sucked. It made me never want to build my fort because they would just knock it down.

There is a very exploitable glitch where you can jump, press sleep, stop sleeping and you can walk on air. you can repeat the process to get higher and higher and because enemies cannot attack you, you are basically invincible. All sorts of easy kills can be had with this.

Really like the game. Very entertaining. But, once again, extremely easy. Liked the big monsters.

Ok now this is a weird glitch that i dont see how you missed. It may only happen for me. When I hold the uzi, all the enemies stop. They only move if im shooting. This basically made it so that I can reload the uzi without anything attacking me. Is anyone else getting this glitch?

This made me think, most of John’s recent creations have been part of an ongoing theme. I hate traffic after I love traffic, Obey! The Game was from an ongoing elephant theme from other past ones, and this is the third Mr Tophat game. I just found it interesting

@newbzoors narh, they kept coming even when i had the uzi out.
@Andreas, you can quick switch between weapons, just press their corresponding numbers..
I liked the game, was hard trying to get the achievement of escaping before the fourth day, for me anyway, but as everyone else said, the rest was a piece of cake.

the game was overall a really, really good one, but i got i qualm:
I think that last gun, the Boom-thingie, could have been a bit better. too long reload and poor range for such an expensive weapon. not denying the strength though, but i would usually find better results with the Light Machine Gun.
Fun game though, i made it out in day 2, 3 pm-ish.
