My name is John and you found my website! I make Flash games and do other things. I have this website as a sort of homestead for myself and my work. Thanks for visiting :).
Today was the half marathon, a footrace through the streets of Anaheim CA. It was part of the Disneyland Half Marathon, an event that has over 14,000 participants.
I ran the race to really do something big before taking the plunge into marriage. Along side Dan from the Armor Games office we tackled the entire race. Still waiting on final results, but my iPhone reported:
I’m super sore but completely proud of my effort. I really wasn’t into running before signing up for this but worked hard to get running into my life to get through this.
First big event down, 2 more to go…
EDIT: Results up, final time 2:24:55 at 4,855th place out of 13-14k runners.
This week it’s one of the many Pokemon games. Actually, it’s my favourite Pokemon game! Old Game That Doesn’t Suck Thursday presents… Pokemon Snap!
If you ever played my game Ocean Explorer you’ll see the inspiration. Pokemon Snap is as game about photography. You travel down a track and take as good of pictures as you can of each Pokemon. The game gives you bonus points for good framing, multiple types in the same frame, and shots of Pokemon acting abnormal and interestingly (such as a pokemon mid-dance). Playing this game I knew a bit about Pokemon, but in reality you need to know absolutely nothing about it. It’s really about photography, not Pokemon.
The game is really fun at that. Later in the game you receive apples to attract Pokemon closer to the vehicle or to cause a stir. Later you receive other things such as Pester Balls and flutes that cause the Pokemon to act in other ways. Each level (there’s only a few) are worth revisiting again after each new item is received since it’ll influence the way the Pokemon react each time.
The only downside is that the game is super short. I booted the game last Sunday on my N64 and was done with it in maybe 2-3 hours. If you are looking for the game you can find it currently on Wii Virtual Console, or you can pick it up at your favourite Ebay store. Also keep on the lookout for Afrika coming out later this year, which is a safari photography game!
This week I am doing a schedule Question and Answer session with game developers and the public alike via Flash Game License. They are putting on a chatroom-like area where people can ask questions about game development, sponsorships, and whatever they want to ask. You are more than willing to join us, and info can be found here. It starts at 1 pm Pacific on Thursday, August September 3.
RPG should have its first draft done tomorrow, for people interested in progress. No ETA yet.
This weekend I went to the beach with Carlie, we enjoyed the beautiful SoCal coast.
