Went back to my college town for a few days, took a bunch of photos.

Carlie and I found a part of the arboretum (tree and plant sanctuary) we never found before, finding these little awesome places is so much fun.  You live somewhere for 3 years and never realize there’s something awesome sitting there the entire time!  See the photos here.

Taking the weekend to shuttle boxes around, taking it easy.  Enjoy your weekend!

Some games are great ideas. And some are even better ideas when they combine silly control schemes with awesome rail-style shooting. This week on Old Games That Don’t Suck Thursday, it’s Typing of the Dead.

I played this game on the PC in 2004 by recommendation of a friend. It’s truly ridiculous, mostly because it takes an established game and turns it on it’s head with an obscure control scheme. Like a rail shooter, you follow a set path in which you must kill enemies before they have time to jump up and attack you. Instead of shooting a gun you type words. Each letter you tap fires a shot, and each time you complete a word you get a hit on the enemy. Missed letters are missed shots, take too long and you get attacked.  As the game progresses words turn into sentences and the game requires faster typing and reaction time.

I really like the voice acting in this game.  Given that your shooting with spelling words on a keyboard the game can’t take itself too seriously.  The voice acting seems intentionally terrible, off-key, and mistimed.  I hope it is.  Either way, it is really, really funny, and I enjoyed it way too much.

I beat the game.  Hopefully you can too.  Copies of this game are floating around on multiple platforms at the moment, including Windows.  Check it out, it’s worth at least one good run through.

I am building some UI for a future game, but I would like to know your opinion on this poll. It looks really stupid but it makes a difference.  Take a look at the poll above and feel free to vote.

I can’t tell you now why (because it’ll screw up the results), but I’ll tell you later.  Thanks!

It was interesting learning where all of you were from yesterday.  What a treat!  Glad I could learn a bit about my audience.

Last week I started on Hedgehog Launch 2.  It’s a game about launching hedgehogs.  I have also considered the starting of I Hate Traffic and a few other sequels.  There are a few I want to revisit.  Dark Cut and Four Second series do not include those, sorry!  Those series are happy where they stand.  Also looking to boot Giraffe Rave and others soon.  Once again, way too many projects I intend to start but end up getting excited about others.

Around Irvine I have been getting in shape for Summer and trying to eat healthier.  Cleaner house, cleaner mind, and everything is on the path to cleansing as I get ready to move on towards my wedding in September.  It’s a strange, scary, and amazing time in my life and there is so much going on.

And with that, I appreciate you reading my blog.  Thanks for the support, especially to those who supported me through thick and thin times in Flash.

I’ve got absolutely no news for you.   Given the holiday weekend and being in-between projects I’ve been slowly realizing that I’ve got nothing really all that important to say.  So instead I’m interested in listening to you.

I COULD just check my Google Analytics, but I’m curious where you are coming from.  I’m currently happily situated in Irvine, CA, USA.  Feel free to alert me to your presence.

Lincoln Logs not related, but feel free to muse as their nostalgia.  Have a safe weekend!
