Even more awards to be had, maybe!

    tankawards

The 2008 Tank Awards are back again this year from Newgrounds.com.  Last year I was a judge for the gaming portion of the website but this year I’m a potential candidate for the games Achievement Unlocked and Dark Cut 3!

These awards are judged by a few lucky flash developers who get to powertrip for the entire month and then choose a winner!  I’m up against some tough competition so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.  The last trophy I ever earned was about 12 years ago for baseball but they gave a trophy to everyone who played so I guess that doesn’t count at all.

In other news today I found out a lot about Windows Vista.  Apparently Windows Vista only allocates 2 GB Ram maximum for applications even if you have more than 2 GB.  So when my Flash file for my platformer starts needing more my life suddenly gets really difficult!  I reprogrammed Vista to allow 3GB for apps (and 1 GB for the kernel) and changed the virtual memory, but alas Flash is very sad at the moment.  In fact I’m pulling nearly 10 million page faults every half hour (whatever that means, anyone care to explain in better detail?).  Levels are big.

I’m currently playing Parappa the Rapper on PSP which means that you’ll see it tomorrow on the OGTDST tomorrow.  See you there!

    FIRST, take that Flamedude xD

Sorry John, I have 512MB RAM (sigh), that means your platformer will be unplayable in my computer? D:

512 might not be that good. But, you definitely don’t need that much RAM just to play, he needs that much RAM for the Flash application itself to run.

Also, today is Thursday, doesn’t that mean that OGTDST should be today?

My friend who’s a huge Newgrounds fan told me that AU had been nominated in the gaming section, but I didn’t know that Dark Cut 3 had also been nominated! Congrats!

Golem, he is discussing the RAM requirements for him building the game in flash, not to play it.

Page Faults are caused essentially by program trying to find areas in your RAM or page file (Virtual memory ,as it is sometimes called – an extension of your RAM on your hard drive.) they consider should be theirs by right, but discover to their horror that the area in question is already in use. The resulting mayhem is called a page fault, and is normally resolved by the operating system finding some more RAM or page file somewhere else for the program to play with. Problems occur if that cannot happen in the even there isn’t any :P .
