    Hello friends,

2008 is over and you’ve probably had enough of those “Top 10 [noun] of 2008!” lists that pollute the internet.  Nonetheless I’ve been nominated for several games this year and I would love a vote (or two since you can vote daily!).  The following have been nominated!

    Action/Adventure

    Achievement Unlocked

    Hedgehog Launch

    Simple Idea

    TBA

    TBA2

    Simulation

    Dark Cut 1

    Dark Cut 2

    Dark Cut 3

    Tactical or Strategy

    Compulse

Jay Is Games has been featuring a bunch of my games since 2005 and has been a prominent casual gaming blog.  They covered my games before anyone really cared and I appreciate that :) .

    backb

During the middle of the day I looked outside and saw the beautiful weather.  Confirming with Dan that it was a phenomenal idea, we decided to take off at lunch and take a ride our road bikes around the Back Bay, a trail that leaves Irvine and heads straight to the ocean.

It was a great ride and a nice break from the day.  The weather was gorgeous and the wind was fair until we had to fight it back to the office.  It was a good 18 miles roundtrip and I was a bit tired; I am a bit out of shape for biking after taking a break from the long 100 mile ride in October.  The holidays probably haven’t helped either.

The game is coming along well.  Today I programmed an enemy that hugged the walls and other terrain and traced paths across connecting wall faces.  It was difficult to program because the enemy works unlike previous enemies I have programmed in the engine.  Most enemies (such as the main little walking guys or birds) can all use the same template but these ones aren’t affected by gravity and have a unique way of moving within the level environment.

I’m piecing together a level template tonight for level two.  There are three levels and we’ll have all three done by tomorrow.

Previews tomorrow, but for now good night! -John
